2010 Global Automotive Symposium - April 22-23, 2010
2010 Global Automotive Symposium (GAS 2010) Held in Beijing
May 05, 2010
BEIJING - The 2010 Global Automotive Symposium (GAS 2010), with a theme of China and World Auto Market in the Next Decade: Innovation, Green Vehicles and Global Competition, was held at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang in Beijing on April 22-23, 2010.
Organized by China Business Update/China Automotive Review (CBU/CAR), GAS 2010 featured more than 50 speakers and moderators who provided information-packed two-days of presentations related to our conference theme as well as a round-table discussion on plug-ins and pure electric vehicles. More than 230 participants came to network and share their views on the perspectives presented by these senior executives, professionals and analysts.
Dr. Wayne W.J. Xing, editor/publisher of CBU/CAR and also the conference chair of GAS 2010, kicked off the event by raising seven questions at the Welcome Dinner on April 21 to help put into perspective the conference theme:
1. Is China the world's largest auto market?
2. What is the evolution of mobility chain in China?
3. Is there fundamental demand for individual mobility in China?
4. What are the characteristics of China's auto market?
5. How do we define a family vehicle or family car in China?
6. How fast China's auto market will grow in 2010 and beyond?
7. What is the big picture about the challenges of this market?
"In many respects, 2010 will be a milestone for China's automobile industry," said Dr. Xing. "2010 will be the end of the 1st decade of the 21st Century, leading onto the 2nd. China will be drafting its 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) for the development of the national economy. China in 2010 will become the world's largest manufacturing country of new light vehicles. 2010 will usher in a true consumer rather than institutional automobile market in China as well as a new decade of intensified global competition and unprecedented domestic consolidation. It was therefore most pertinent for us to choose the theme for GAS 2010 as: China & World Auto Market in the Next Decade: Innovation, Green Vehicles and Global Competition."
The one and a half-day general sessions on April 22-23 featured 17 keynote addresses from multinational and domestic CEOs and government officials and a round-table session and presentations from industry analysts and senior OEM and supplier executives. 23 speakers shared their thoughts and perspectives at four breakout sessions on the afternoon of April 23 covering Heavy-Duty & Commercial, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and the Aftermarket.
GAS 2010 was sponsored by Ernst & Young, Hyundai Motor Co., Total Lubricants, Delphi, Gentex Corp. and International Automotive Components (IAC), supported by ACEA (European Auto Manufacturers' Association), JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association), AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group), OESA (U.S. Original Equipment Suppliers Association), SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) and CEIBS (China Europe International Business School).
