CHANGCHUN/SHANGHAI – Volkswagen’s joint ventures in China, SAIC-Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, have produced a combined 32 million vehicles since they began operations.
SAIC-Volkswagen celebrated the production of its 17 millionth vehicle, a white Škoda Octavia Combi, on August 18, becoming the first passenger vehicle manufacturer to achieve the feat. FAW-Volkswagen produced its 15 millionth vehicle, a blue Audi A6L e-tron, three days later.
The Octavia Combi station wagon hit the market on August 22 at a price range of ¥124,900-¥174,900, enriching the model lineup of the Škoda brand, which began local production 10 years ago at Shanghai-Volkswagen.
It took FAW-Volkswagen 20 years to produce its first 5 millionth vehicle, more than three years to produce its second 5 millionth vehicle and just two years and eight months to produce the third 5 millionth vehicle.
“FAW-Volkswagen has made remarkable achievement during the last 26 years and the production of the 15 millionth vehicle is a new starting point. It will offer Chinese consumers the newest technologies, the most extreme experience and the best cared mobility services,” said Xu Liuping, newly appointed chairman of FAW Group.
