BMW cooperates with Autonavi to develop next generation telematics

BEIJING – BMW has reached a cooperation agreement with Autonavi to develop the next generation of telematics, according to recent media reports.

The in-car infotainment system to be jointly developed by the two parties will be first applied to imported BMW 7 Series, 5 Series and X5 models which will hit the market in 2018. The new in-car infotainment system will be available in locally-produced BMW 3 Series, X3, X1 and other models starting in 2019.

According to media reports, based on BMW’s next generation telematics system, Autonavi will provide BMW with services like real-time transportation information and route mileage calculation. Considering the diversified demands of BMW’s plug-in hybrid and pure electric products, Autonavi will insert its map with dynamic charging station and dynamic range limit information.

Autonavi is a Chinese provider of digital map content and navigation solutions. Before teaming up with BMW, the company has already cooperated with Jaguar Land Rover, Chang’an, Geely and SAIC Motor for development of telematics products.
