BEIJING – BMW will road-test its pure electric Active E probably via leasing next year in China to further prepare for the production of i3 EV and i8 PHEV which are expected to hit the market in 2013, according to a BMW media day press conference on September 22.
BMW is considering leasing Active E for road test instead of soliciting volunteers, but details of the plan are not decided yet, Zhao Tao, a BMW product communications manager, told CBU/CAR.
BMW has selected qualified volunteers in Beijing and Shenzhen to test its Mini E on road and the results prove positive, said Zhao. Mini E users have made a complaint that the two-seat vehicle is too narrow for family use as the back seats are remodeled to install battery packs. Active E will not have such problem as batteries are placed under the engine hood, he explained.
