BYD launches K9 electric bus in Chile

SAN DIE , Chile – Chinese electric vehicle producer BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. held the launching ceremony of the first electric bus lane together with Universidad Mayor and Chilectra Company in Chile, reported d1ev.com.

María Ignacia Benítez, Minister of Environment of Chile took the BYD K9 bus from Huechuraba to Escuela Militar, and regarded the experience as a great contribution in promoting the beginning of electric bus era. According to the Minister, electric buses will help save 2,260L diesel fuel per month in the capital city and reduce 4 tons of CO2 emissions.

The BYD K9 fleets totaled an operating distance of over 19,000,000km in Shenzhen, China since its first operation, according to the report. Chile has become another important spot of BYD’s operation succeeded to Uruguay, Columbia, Brazil and Mexico in South America.

Equipped with a 324KWh battery, the BYD K9 owns an extended range of 250km and covers the same distance of the current Transantiago system of Chile and can also cover the whole route from Santiago to Talca.
