CHONGQING — Chang’an-Suzuki will unveil a new mid-class sedan, coded YY5, at Auto China 2006 in Beijing, according to a news report on sina.com.cn.
“This will be a newly developed 1.6L Suzuki sedan that has been specially designed for the China market,” said Wang Wei, vice president of Chang’an-Suzuki. He added that the YY5 would compete with the Peugeot 307, Focus sedan, Corolla and Elantra.
Designed with an SUV body according to a coupe concept, the YY5 will debut in China before moving on to the European, U.S. and Japanese markets, Wang said.
Local media reports have suggested that the new model was based on the SX4. The SX4 was the first cross-over vehicle model that Suzuki and Fiat jointly developed in 2006. It went on sale in Europe and appeared at the New York Auto Show several months ago. It retails for $14,999 in the U.S.
