BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in August increased 24.22 percent from the previous year to 2.07 million units, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on September 9.
Passenger vehicle sales reached 1,795,500 units, up 26.34 percent, while commercial vehicle sales reached 275,500 units, up 11.99 percent.
The top 10 automakers by sales in August were SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW, Chang’an, BAIC, GAC, Great Wall, Geely, Chery and Brilliance. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 1.84 million units, accounting for 88.89 percent of total automobile sales.
A total of around 916,200 passenger cars were sold in August, up 20.12 percent compared with last year. The top 10 passenger car makers by sales in August were FAW-VW, SAIC-VW, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Nissan, Beijing-Hyundai, Chang’an-Ford, FAW-Toyota, GAC-Honda, Geely and Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 664,600 units, accounting for 72.54 percent of total passenger car sales. The Volkswagen Jetta ranked first on the list of sales of the top 10 car models in August by selling 36,600 units in the month, followed by the Volkswagen Lavida (33,900 units) and the Buick Excelle (32,800 units).
Sales of SUVs kept surging with a year-on-year growth rate of 43.86 percent to 654,100 units. The top 10 SUV makers by sales in August were Great Wall, Chang’an, SAIC-GM, Beijing-Hyundai, Dongfeng-Nissan, GAC Motor, Geely, Chery, Chang’an-Ford and SAIC-VW. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached 320,800 units, accounting for 49.05 percent of total SUV sales.
MPV sales were up 35.93 percent to 180,400 units. The top 10 MPV makers by sales in August were SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng, Chang’an, BAIC Yinxiang, BAIC Motor, Jinbei Auto, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Honda, SAIC-VW and JAC, with combined sales of 163,200 units, which took up 90.47 percent of MPV sales.
Microvan sales reached 44,800 units, down 36.88 percent. The top 10 microvan makers by sales were SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng, Chongqing Lifan, Jinbei Auto, Chang’an, FAW, BAIC Motor, Beiqi-Foton, BAW and Fujian NLM. Their combined sales were 44,700 units, accounting for 99.78 percent of total microvan sales.
