BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in September increased 26.14 percent from the previous year to 2.56 million units, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on October 12.
Passenger vehicle sales in the month totaled 2,268,300 units, up 28.94 percent.
The top 10 automakers by sales in September were SAIC, Dongfeng, Chang’an, FAW, BAIC, GAC, Great Wall, Geely, Chery and Brilliance. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 2.27 million units, accounting for 88.65 percent of total automobile sales.
Passenger car sales in September were around 1,119,300 units, up 17.07 percent compared with the same month of last year. The top 10 passenger car makers by sales in September were FAW-VW, SAIC-VW, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Nissan, Beijing-Hyundai, Chang’an-Ford, Geely, GAC-Honda, Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia and FAW-Toyota. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 799,300 units, accounting for 71.41 percent of total passenger car sales. The Volkswagen Lavida ranked first on the list of sales of the top 10 car models in September by selling 39,900 units in the month, followed by the Nissan Sylphy (37,700 units) and the Buick Excelle (36,400 units).
Sales of SUVs kept surging with a year-on-year growth rate of 54.21 percent to 879,000 units. The top 10 SUV makers by sales in September were Great Wall, Chang’an, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Nissan, Beijing-Hyundai, GAC Motor, Dongfeng-Honda, Geely, Chang’an-Ford and JAC. Combined sales of these 10 companies came to 438,400 units, accounting for 49.87 percent of total SUV sales.
MPVs sales were up 37.32 percent to 221,500 units. The top 10 MPV makers by sales in September were SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng, Chang’an, BAIC Motor, BAIC Yinxiang, SAIC-GM, JAC, Dongfeng-Honda, Chery and SAIC-VW, with combined sales of 203,200 units, which took up 91.74 percent of total MPV sales.
In the microvan segment, sales reached 48,600 units, down 32.36 percent. The top 10 microvan makers by sales were SAIC-GM-Wuling, Chongqing Lifan, Dongfeng, Jinbei Auto, Chang’an, BAIC Motor, FAW, BAW, Fujian NLM and Beiqi-Foton. Their combined sales were 48,100 units, accounting for 98.97 percent of total microvan sales.
Commercial vehicle sales in September were 295,800 units, up 8.11 percent. Bus sales reached 44,000 units, down 7.75 percent, while truck sales reached 251,800 units, up 11.46 percent.
In the first nine months of the year, automobile sales amounted to 19,360,400 units, an increase of 13.17 percent year-on-year. Of the total, passenger vehicle sales were 16,752,000 units, up 14.75 percent, while commercial vehicle sales were 2,608,400 units, up 3.97 percent.
