China imports 98,874 vehicles in February

BEIJING – China imported 98,874 vehicles in February, up 62 percent year-on-year, including 96,245 passenger vehicles with a growth of 60.5 percent, Beijing Morning Post reported.

Import volume of passenger cars saw a growth of 74.1 percent to 43,000 units, accounting for 45.4 percent of total vehicle import volume, due to influence of new products including the Lexus CT200h, Seat Leon and Volkswagen Golf Cross.

Meanwhile, 46,000 SUVs were imported, more than that of passenger cars, while imports of MPVs doubled year-on-year to 6,000 units mainly owing to the introduction of the Volkswagen Sharan and Multivan.

Over the period of January-February, China imported 181,570 vehicles, up 25.3 percent on a yearly basis, including 177,595 passenger vehicles with a growth of 25 percent.
