China to recall more than half million Toyota and Nissan cars over Takata airbags

BEIJING – China will recall more than a half million Toyota and Nissan cars due to problematic airbags supplied by Takata Corp., according to statements of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) published on its website recently.

Starting from June 12, Tianjin-FAW-Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will recall 302,705 Vios and Corolla EX cars produced from January 2004 to March 2007. 

Dongfeng Motor Co., Nissan Group of China and Zhengzhou-Nissan Auto Co., will recall 267,416 vehicles due to same airbag problem starting from July 13.

The affected models, which were produced from June 2003 to March 2007, include 66,569 locally made Sunnys, 41,227 Blue Birds, 130,399 Teanas, 26,053 Paladin SUVs as well as 351 imported TYTs and 2,817 imported X-Trail SUVs.
