China’s A0-class car sales down 2.06 percent in May

BEIJING – China’s locally produced A0-class car sales in May 2014 dropped 2.06 percent on a yearly basis to 134,496 units, accounting for 13.8 percent of the total car sales, according to CBU-Autostats.

Combined sales of the top 10 A0-class car models reached 94,491 units and took up 70.2 percent of the total segment sales.

 Cumulative sales of China’s locally produced A0-class cars in the first five months of this year reached 740,909 units, down 2.88 percent.

 Chinese brands

Sales of Chinese brands’ A0-class cars dropped 24.73 percent year-on-year to 37,290 units, and their market share was down by 8.32 percentage points to 27.6 percent.

Chang’an led the segment among the Chinese brands by the sales of 11,036 units, up 30.19 percent.

Sales of Chinese brands in the segment in the first five months this year dropped 22.26 percent to 218,678 units.

Sales of Korean brands’ locally produced A0-class cars in China rose 11.01 percent year-on-year to 31,561 units, and their market share was up by 2.7 percentage points to 23.4 percent.

Beijing-Hyundai sales in the segment were 17,874 units, up 25.23 percent but Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia 13.687 units, down 3.32 percent.

Sales of these brands in the segment in the first five months came to 152,110 units, up 10.38 percent.

Sales of American brands’ locally produced A0-class cars reached 22,791 units with an decline of 2.44 percent, but their market share was down by 0.06 percentage points to 16.9 percent.

Shanghai-GM sales in the segment under the Chevrolet dropped 6.12 percent to 18,088 units during the month.

In the first five months, American brand sales in the segment rose 6.76 percent to 132,813 units.

In the first five months, their cumulative sales in the segment came to 126,716 units, up 38.77 percent.
