China’s B-class car sales down 1.5 percent in February

BEIJING – China’s locally produced B-class car sales in February 2014 dropped 1.5 percent year-on-year to 116,299 units, accounting for 16.9 percent of the total car sales, according to CBU-Autostats.

Sales of the top 10 B-class car models in the month were 75,396 units, and took up 64.8 percent of the total segment sales.

In the first two months, cumulative sales of locally produce B-class cars reached 320,855 units, up 3.42 percent.

 Chinese brands

Sales of Chinese brands’ B-class cars dropped 46.4 percent on a yearly basis to 3,322 units, and their market share was down by 2.4 percentage point to 2.85 percent.

Their cumulative sales in the segment in the first two months dropped 29.9 percent to 10,257 units.

German brands  

Sales of German brands’ locally produced B-class cars rose 2.33 percent on a yearly basis to 45,816 units, and their market share was up by 1.4 percentage points to 39.3 percent.

Shanghai-Volkswagen sales in the segment were 15,115 units, down 24 percent but FAW-Volkswagen 22,199 units, up 10.07 percent.

Cumulative sales of German brand’s B-class cars in the first two months were 111,309 units, up 2.1 percent.

 Japanese brands

Sales of Japanese brands’ locally produced B-class cars rose 13.7 percent on a yearly basis to 28,616 units, and their market share was up by 3.3 percentage points to 24.6 percent.

GAC-Toyota led the segment among the Japanese JVs by the sales of 7,973 units, up 7.5 percent.

In the first two months, Japanese brand sales in the segment were 91,182 units, up 14.3 percent.

Sales of American brands’ locally produced B-class cars declined by 9.54 percent year-on-year to 22,370 units, and their market share was 19.2 percent, down 1.7 percentage points.

Shanghai-GM sales in this segment reached 14,615 units, down 31.2 percent.

Cumulative sales of American brand’s B-class cars in the first two months were 67,069 units, up 10.5 percent.

Sales of Korean brands’ locally produced B-class cars dropped 8.9 percent on a yearly basis to 9,937 units, and their market share was down by 0.69 percentage points to 8.5 percent.

Sales of Beijing-Hyundai in the segment were 6,505 units, down 9.33 percent, and those of Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia dropped 8.13 percent to 3,432 units.

Cumulative sales of Korean brand’s B-class cars in the first two months were 23,391 units, down 16.2 percent.
