China’s B-class car sales in April increase 4.04 percent

BEIJING – China’s locally produced B-class car sales in April 2014 increased 4.04 percent year-on-year to 171,044 units, accounting for 17.8 percent of the total car sales, according to CBU-Autostats.

Sales of the top 10 B-class car models in the month were 111,273 units, and took up 65 percent of the total segment sales.

 Chinese brands

Sales of Chinese brands’ B-class cars dropped 50.66 percent on a yearly basis to 3,540 units, and their market share was down by 2.29 percentage point to 2.06 percent.

Their cumulative sales in the segment in the first four months dropped 38.41 percent to 17,896 units.

Sales of German brands’ locally produced B-class cars rose 12.94 percent on a yearly basis to 61,828 units, and their market share was up by 2.84 percentage points to 36.1 percent.

Shanghai-Volkswagen sales in the segment were 19,750 units, down 9.22 percent but FAW-Volkswagen 31,385 units, up 22.06 percent.

Cumulative sales of German brand’s B-class cars in the first four months were 237,681 units, up 9.59 percent.

Sales of Japanese brands’ locally produced B-class cars dropped 8.83 percent on a yearly basis to 47,223 units, but their market share was down by 3.89 percentage points to 27.6 percent.

GAC-Toyota led the segment among the Japanese JVs by the sales of 13,742 units, down 0.03 percent.

In the first four months, Japanese brand sales in the segment were 185,713 units, up 3.98 percent.

Shanghai-GM sales in this segment reached 25,723 units, up 5.29 percent.

Cumulative sales of American brand’s B-class cars in the first four months were 138,815 units, up 18.32 percent.

Sales of Beijing-Hyundai in the segment were 6,279 units, down 31.56 percent, and those of Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia dropped 4.83 percent to 4,691 units.

Cumulative sales of Korean brand’s B-class cars in the first four months were 46,608 units, down 18.07 percent.
