China’s B-class car sales in May down 0.66 percent

BEIJING – China’s locally produced B-class car sales in May 2014 dropped 0.66 percent year-on-year to 174,221 units, accounting for 17.8 percent of the total car sales, according to CBU-Autostats.

Sales of the top 10 B-class car models in the month were 116,595 units, and took up 66.9 percent of the total segment sales.

 Chinese brands

Sales of Chinese brands’ B-class cars dropped 45.79 percent on a yearly basis to 4,498 units, and their market share was down by 2.14 percentage point to 2.58 percent.

Their cumulative sales in the segment in the first five months dropped 40.05 percent to 22,394 units.

Sales of German brands’ locally produced B-class cars rose 2.71 percent on a yearly basis to 64,984 units, and their market share was up by 1.22 percentage points to 37.3 percent.

Shanghai-Volkswagen sales in the segment were 21,310 units, down 18.2 percent but FAW-Volkswagen 32,451 units, up 12.8 percent.

Cumulative sales of German brand’s B-class cars in the first five months were 304,665 units, up 8.04 percent.

 Japanese brands

Sales of Japanese brands’ locally produced B-class cars dropped 2.22 percent on a yearly basis to 48,709 units, and their market share was down by 0.44 percentage points to 27.9 percent.

GAC-Toyota led the segment among the Japanese JVs by the sales of 14,478 units, up 2.72 percent.

In the first five months, Japanese brand sales in the segment were 234,422 units, up 2.96 percent.

Sales of American brands’ locally produced B-class cars increased by 31.82 percent year-on-year to 36,245 units, and their market share was 20.8 percent, up 5.12 percentage points.

Shanghai-GM sales in this segment reached 25,850 units, up 17.4 percent.

Cumulative sales of American brand’s B-class cars in the first five months were 175,060 units, up 20.88 percent.

Sales of Korean brands’ locally produced B-class cars dropped 41.11 percent on a yearly basis to 9,240 units, and their market share was down by 3.64 percentage points to 5.3 percent.

Sales of Beijing-Hyundai in the segment were 5,177 units, down 52.61 percent, and those of Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia dropped 14.77 percent to 4,063 units.

Cumulative sales of Korean brand’s B-class cars in the first five months were 55,848 units, down 23.05 percent.
