China’s automobile sales up 17.84 percent in February

BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in February increased 17.84 percent on a yearly basis to more than 1.59 million units (Table 1), according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Combined sales of the top 10 automakers in the month totaled nearly 1.45 million units, accounting for 90.79 percent of the total sales (Table 2).

A total of 1.31 million passenger vehicles (including passenger cars, MPVs, SUVs and microvans) were sold, up 18.01 percent. Passenger car sales were 830,500 units, up 10.73 percent, and SUVs 237,200 units, up 50.29 percent.

Sales of MPVs continued to rise with a 73.03 percent jump to 134,300 units, but those of microvans dropped 12.87 percent to 110,200 units.

Combined sales of the top 10 passenger vehicle makers were 857,700 units, taking up 65.36 percent of the total passenger vehicle sales (Table 3).

Passenger vehicle sales of Chinese brands in February rose 5.39 percent to 503,700 units, but their market share was down by 4.6 percentage points to 38.39 percent.

Sales of Chinese brand passenger cars reached 177,700 units, down 18.23 percent. Market share of Chinese brand passenger cars declined 7.58 percentage points to 21.4 percent.

Sales of commercial vehicles (including buses, trucks, semi-trailers, bus chassis and truck chassis) in February totaled 284,200 units with an increase of 17.04 percent year-on-year, the data shows.

Bus sales reached 30,900 units, up 12.44 percent, and trucks 253,300 units, up 17.63 percent.

Combined sales of the top 10 commercial vehicle makers were 206,400 units, accounting for 72.62 percent of the total commercial vehicle sales (Table 4).

China’s automobile sales in the first two months this year climbed 10.73 percent to more than 3.75 million units. Passenger vehicle sales reached nearly 3.16 million units, up 11.33 percent. Sales of commercial vehicles came to 593,900 units, up 7.62 percent.
