China’s automobile sales up 19.66 percent in September

BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in September climbed by 19.66 percent on a yearly basis to more than 1.93 million units (Table 1), according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Combined sales of the top 10 automakers in the month reached 1.73 million units, accounting for 89.54 percent of the total sales (Table 2).

A total of 1.59 million passenger vehicles (including passenger cars, MPVs, SUVs and microvans) were sold, up 21.12 percent. Passenger car sales reached 1.06 million units, up 14.73 percent, and SUVs 283,600 units, up 65.34 percent.

Sales of MPVs continued a high growth to 122,900 units, up 200 percent, but those of microvans dropped 30.06 percent to 121,500 units.

Passenger vehicle sales of Chinese brands in September increased by 8.3 percent year-on-year to 608,600 units, but their market share was down by 4.52 percentage points to 38.19 percent.

Sales of Chinese brand passenger cars were 276,200 units, down 1.75 percent, and their market share dropped by 4.35 percentage points to 25.92 percent.

Combined sales of the top 10 passenger vehicle makers were 964,800 units, taking up 60.55 percent of the total passenger vehicle sales (Table 3).

Sales of commercial vehicles (including buses, trucks, semi-trailers, bus chassis and truck chassis) in September totaled 342,300 units with an increase of 13.3 percent year-on-year, the data shows.

Bus sales reached 40,800 units, up 9 percent, and trucks 226,700 units, up 8 percent.

Combined sales of the top 10 commercial vehicle makers were 255,200 units, taking up 74.55 percent of the total commercial vehicle sales (Table 4).

China’s automobile sales in the first three quarters of this year came to 15.88 million units with an increase of 12.7 percent, compared to the same period of last year. Passenger vehicle sales were 12.95 million units, up 14.02 percent, and commercial vehicles 3.03 million units, up 7.46 percent, according to the data.
