China’s automobile sales up 2.3 percent in November

BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in November rose 2.3 percent on a yearly basis to more than 2.09 million units (Table 1), according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on December 10.

Combined sales of the top 10 automakers in the month totaled nearly 1.87 million units, accounting for about 90 percent of the total sales (Table 2).

A total of nearly 1.78 million passenger vehicles were sold, up 4.7 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Passenger car sales were over 1.07 million units, down 4.7 percent, and SUVs 414,600 units, up 37.6 percent.

The Nissan Sylphy ranked first on the list of sales of the top 10 car models in November by selling 34,500 units, followed by the Ford Focus (32,700 units) and Volkswagen Lavida (28,800 units).

Sales of MPVs continued to climb with a growth rate of 42.9 percent to 200,800 units, but those of microvans dropped 32.5 percent to 85,600 units.

Combined sales of the top 10 passenger vehicle makers were over 1 million units, taking up nearly 58 percent of the total passenger vehicle sales (Table 3).

Passenger vehicle sales of the Chinese brands in November increased 5.47 percent to 726,000 units and the market share of Chinese brand passenger vehicles was up 0.3 percentage point to 40.9 percent.

Sales of Chinese brand passenger cars reached 254,100 units, down 22.39 percent. Their market share declined 5.4 percentage points to 23.65 percent.

Commercial vehicle sales in the month came to 315,600 units with a year-on-year decline of 9.2 percent.

Bus sales reached 56,200 units, an increase of 10.3 percent. Truck sales were 259,400 units, down12.6 percent.

Combined sales of the top 10 commercial vehicle makers were 232,200 units, which took up 73.6 percent of the total commercial vehicle sales (Table 4).

China’s automobile sales in the first 11 months of 2014 rose 6.1 percent to nearly 21.08 million units. Passenger vehicle sales reached 17.64 million units, up 9.2 percent, but sales of commercial vehicles decreased 7.3 percent to 3.44 million units.
