China’s motor vehicle parc tops 250 million by 2013

BEIJING – China’s motor vehicle parc by the end of 2013 surpassed 250 million, including 137 million automobiles, reported Beijing Times citing statistics from the Ministry of Public Security.

In 2013, automobiles took 54.9 percent of the total motor vehicles, up 29.9 percentage points compared to 2003.

Eight cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Hangzhou have automobile parc of above two million units, and 31 cities now have over one million automobiles on roads.

The number of licensed drivers increased 18.44 million to 280 million in 2013.
