China’s passenger vehicle sales up 13.6 percent in August

BEIJING— China’s passenger vehicle (PV, including car, MPV, SUV and microvan) sales in August increased 13.6 percent on a yearly basis to nearly 1.32 million units (see Table 1), according to latest data released by China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

A total of 10.68 million PVs were sold in the first eight months, up 16.1 percent compared to the same period of last year.

In August, passenger car sales reached 882,988 units, up 7.5 percent and SUVs 225,587 units, up 46.3 percent.

Sales of MPV segment in the month rose 40.5 percent to 105,898 units, but those of microvans were 103,903 units, down 4.9 percent.

The combined sales of top 10 PV makers in the month were 813,805 units, accounting for 61.7 percent of the total sales (see Table 2).
