Commercial vehicle sales drops over 30 percent in February

BEIJING – According to the latest statistics of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), all commercial vehicle segments except semi-trailers saw drastic decline in February month-on-month. Bus, truck, semi-trailer, bus chassis and truck chassis all experienced two-digit decrease in February on a yearly basis, said the association.  

China produced and sold 23,500 and 24,100 buses in February, down 37.5 and 31.64 percent month-on-month, and 18.3 and 13.62 percent year-on-year. Truck output and sales totaled 173,300 and 177,400 units respectively, down 30.11 and 21.34 percent on a monthly basis and 28.04 and 28.38 percent year-on-year.

Semi-trailers registered output and sales of 13,100 and 12,200 units in the same month, with output decreasing 14.14 percent and sales increasing 0.28 percent from January. Output and sales of semi-trailers dropped drastically by 49.69 and 52.65 percent compared with the same period last year.

Bus chassis posted output and sales of 2,800 and 3,200 units, down 59.41 and 54.69 percent on a monthly basis and 43.17 and 36.69 percent on a yearly basis. Truck chassis, with output and sales totaled 29,400 and 25,800 units, saw a decrease of 17.27 and 10.83 percent compared with that of January and 36.83 and 45.68 percent compared with that of February in the previous year.

Semi-trailers and truck chassis performed far worse than other segments, said CAAM. Output and sales of buses kept on growing last month, remaining the sole shining point of the industry.

The country produced and sold 61,000 and 59,500 buses through February, up 12.82 and 8.65 percent year-on-year. Output and sales of trucks totaled 421,400 and 402,900 units in the first two months, with output increasing 4.57 percent and sales dropping 0.48 percent.

Output and sales of semi-trailers were 28,400 and 24,400 units during January-February, down 28.97 and 35.89 percent on a yearly basis.

Bus chassis registered output and sales of 9,700 and 10,200 units in the same period, with output increasing 2.26 percent and sales dropping 5.08 percent. Truck chassis posted output and sales of 65,000 and 54,700 units, a decline of 20.74 and 24.18 percent year-on-year.
