WUHAN, Hubei – Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. (DFAC)’s two-seater full electric urban commuter EJ02 will go for volume production and market launch at the end of the year, with initial sales aimed at 200 units, reported auto.sohu.com.
As a small urban commuter, the electric two-seater has a top speed of 80 km/h and a drive range of 110 to 150 km. It takes 8 hours to charge the Li-iron phosphate batteries to full. Battery cycle life is 1,500 times. Price tag of the EJ02 is set around ¥40,000 ($6,350) after the promised purchase subsidies.
The EJ02 is a product of three years of DFAC’s independent research and development, testing and certification work. The EJ02 features its aluminum alloy shell which brings the car’s weight down to between 770 and 850 kg.
DFAC kicked off the construction of its electric vehicle production base last December, aiming at a production capacity of 30,000 units in 2014 and 80,000 in 2016.
The EV was listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s list of recommended energy-saving and new energy vehicles in November 2011.
Making its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show last year, DFAC’s self-developed EJ02 was again displayed at the recent 2012 China International Energy Saving and New Energy Automobile Exhibition in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
