WUHAN, Hubei – Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. (DFAC)’s two-seater full electric urban commuter EJ02 will go for volume production and market launch in early 2013, reported Wuhan Morning Post.
The EJ02 is a product of three years of DFAC’s independent research and development, testing and certification work. The EJ02 features its aluminum alloy shell which brings the car’s weight down to between 770 and 850 kg.
Recently three Chinese ministries have organized an expert team to single out dozens of new energy vehicle technology innovation projects from 24 Chinese carmakers. DFAC is on the list with two projects eligible for the national technology innovation grants, including technology development of micro battery electric vehicle and new energy city bus.
As a small urban commuter, the electric two-seater has a top speed of 80 km/h and a drive range of 110 to 150 km. It takes 8 hours to charge the Li-iron phosphate batteries to full. Battery cycle life is 1,500 times. Price tag of the EJ02 is set around ¥40,000 ($6,350) after the promised purchase subsidies.
DFAC kicked off the construction of its electric vehicle production base last December, aiming at a production capacity of 30,000 units in 2014 and 80,000 in 2016.
The EV was listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s catalogue of recommended energy-saving and new energy vehicles in November 2011.
Making its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show last year, DFAC’s self-developed EJ02 was again displayed at the recent 2012 China International Energy Saving and New Energy Automobile Exhibition in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
