DaimlerChrysler appoints new Northeast Asia chief executive

BEIJING – DaimlerChrysler announced on November 14 the appointment of Ulrich Walker as the new chairman and CEO of its Northeast Asia operations, effective immediately.

Walker, who was president and CEO of DaimlerChrysler’s Smart division before the appointment and also a board member of Mitsubishi Motors Corp., will be responsible for DaimlerChrysler’s entire operations and joint ventures in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea. He will also be the chairman of DaimlerChrysler’s China executive board, which is comprised of representatives from all the company’s divisions – Mercedes Car Group, Chrysler Group, Truck Group and Financial Services.
Walker replaces Dr. Till Becker, who has left the company. DaimlerChrysler did not provide a reason for the management change.
Walker will continue to perform his duties at Smart until the market launch of the new Smart and the completion of the integration of Smart GmbH into DaimlerChrysler AG, says DaimlerChrysler.
