BEIJING – Das WeltAuto, the used vehicle brand under Volkswagen AG, plans to authorize 162 Volkswagen dealerships to work with FAW-Volkswagen, Shanghai-Volkswagen and Volkswagen Import Co., Ltd. to sell Volkswagen brand used vehicles in China in 2012, said Martin Soest, director of Volkswagen used vehicle business, reported auto.sina.com.
He also indicated, by 2015, 50 percent of Volkswagen dealership in China will be granted authority to conduct used vehicle business.
“There will be only one brand for Volkswagen used vehicles in China in the future,” said Soest, “and that authority will be offered to the dealerships through Volkswagen’s joint ventures in China and Volkswagen Import Co., Ltd., which receive permission from Volkswagen China.”
Das WeltAuto will cooperate with Volkswagen Financial to offer financial services including loans and insurance.
In 2010, Volkswagen China and China Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. jointly opened the first Das WeltAuto dealership in Beijing.
Das WeltAuto business now adopts a multi-brand strategy, covering Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat as well as Volkswagen commercial vehicles.
Soest predicted that the sales growth of used vehicles in China in 2017 will surpass those of new vehicles, and that used vehicle sales will reach 22.5 million units in 2018.
