ZHENGZHOU, Henan – Dongfeng-Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co. rolled off its first independent brand model, the Venucia D50, at its Zhengzhou plant on March 20.
With a pre-sale price tag of ¥70,000-¥90,000 ($11,060-$14,220), the model will become the third so-called “JV independent” brand to hit the market after the Linian S1 from GAC-Honda and the Baojun 630 from SAIC-GM-Wuling.
Based on the platform of Dongfeng-Nissan’s Tiida sedan, the Venucia D50 is powered by a 1.6L engine with maximum power of 86 kW at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 153 Nm at 4,400 rpm, mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Ren Yong, vice president of Dongfeng-Nissan, said the Venucia D50 will be positioned higher than the Sunny.
In addition, Dongfeng-Nissan claimed the Venucia’s second model will be launched by yearend, and monthly sales of the D50 are expected to surpass 10,000 units later this year.
The Venucia D50 debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show last November.
