Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled a whole lineup of Kia models including the SOUL, Forte, Sportage, new Cerato and its 1,400-square-meter show booth at Auto Guangzhou 2009. The locally produced version of the SOUL made its China debut at the event.
The SOUL, designed by Kia’s chief design officer Peter Schreyer, stands distinct from Kia’s lineup with its unique looks. Schreyer describes the Soul as “a breakthrough vehicle for Kia on its journey to be seen as a design-led company and the maker of distinctive cars which consumers aspire to own.”
Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia recorded a new sales high of over 180,000 vehicles in the first 10 months of 2009, and sales for the entire year are expected to hit 230,000 units, according to a company news release.
The three-way JV automaker plans to launch one or two new models every year in China to meet diversified customer needs. With its second plant starting operation, Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia expects to have an annul output capacity of 430,000 vehicles by 2011.
