BEIJING – Dongfeng Motor Corp. Passenger Vehicle Company (DFPV), a PV division of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., launched its first passenger vehicle Aeolus S30 (Fengshen in Chinese) in Beijing on July 22. Five variants of the sedan are priced at ¥75,800-¥99,800 ($10,990-$14,460).
The Aeolus S30 adopts a chassis with 4-wheel independent suspension system, jointly developed by German and Dongfeng’s chassis experts. Powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, the new car can be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission developed by Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroën Automobile, a joint venture of Dongfeng Motor Group, or an automatic transmission developed by Japanese supplier Aisin Seiki.
DFPV claimed it had already received more than 5,000 orders for the car as of mid-July since reservation started in early June.
DFPV said it has completed the Aeolus brand production line and plans to make more than 10 models on its B, C and D platforms. The automaker also plans to independently develop its powertrains with seven engines ranging from 1.3 to 2.4 liters.
The Aeolus is the first independent PV brand of Dongfeng Motor Group. The company has forged multiple JVs with foreign automotive companies, such as Dongfeng-Cummins for the production of truck engines, Dongfeng-Honda, Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroën and Dongfeng-Nissan for production of cars.
Dongfeng Motor Group sold 101,482 vehicles in June, 25.71 percent higher than the same period of last year. The company has set a goal to sell 1.4 million vehicles this year including its own brand.
