CHANGCHUN, Jilin – FAW Jiefang, the medium and heavy-duty truck subsidiary of FAW Group, celebrated the production of its 50,000th J6 heavy-duty truck of 2010 on October 18.
On the same day, the company announced that its medium and heavy-duty truck sales for the year had exceeded the 200,000-unit mark. This represents year-on-year growth of 76 percent and a new market share of 20 percent, helping FAW maintain its leading position in China’s medium and heavy-duty truck market.
“The production of the 50,000th J6 truck not only demonstrates the strength of our production capabilities, but also signals that the Jiefang truck is on its way to a new era of development,” said Xu Jianyi, president of FAW Group.
FAW Jiefang has thus increased its annual sales target to 250,000 units, according to company president Wang Lizhi, saying that “FAW Jiefang has successfully achieved its product structure upgrade and solidified its leading position among domestic high-end heavy-duty trucks.
The J6 is the sixth generation of FAW’s heavy-duty truck and officially began production in July 2007 as FAW Group celebrated its 54th anniversary. It is a result of six years of development with more than 300 innovative technologies and 197 national patents.
A year ago, the J6 had the special distinction of being the 10 millionth vehicle produced in China.
FAW Group as a whole sold 1.85 million vehicles through to September, including 301,300 commercial vehicles, ranking third both in the overall market and in the commercial vehicle sector.
