CHANGCHUN, Jilin – FAW-Volkswagen has achieved its sales goal for 2006, with end-user sales exceeding 350,000 units including more than 80,000 Audi cars, according to a company press release.
Sales of the Jetta, one of the longest-selling models in China, reached 170,000 units in 2006, making up nearly half of the group’s total China sales.
The Sino-German joint venture has benefited from its new product strategy and a restructuring of the sales network. These two measures were proposed by the company’s new management in early 2006, when An Tiecheng and Weiming Soh became FAW-Volkswagen Group president and FAW-Volkswagen president of sales, respectively.
FAW-Volkswagen has sold a total of 1.8 million cars since it commenced operations in China 15 years ago. Cumulative sales of the Audi brand stood at 340,000 units at the end of 2006.
More than a million Jettas have been sold since the model first rolled off the assembly lines in December 1991. The Jetta can thus lay claim to being indisputably the best-selling car in China.
