HANNOVER, Germany – Guangdong Fuwa Heavy Industries (Fuwa) expects to enter the truck axle market by the end of 2010, targeting both domestic and international market, according to Sergio Carvalho, president and CEO of Fuwa Commercial Vehicle Systems in an interview with CBU/CAR at the 2010 IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover.
Founded in 1997, Fuwa is now the largest axle and special parts provider for semi-trailers in the world. The company, headquartered in Guangdong Province, currently holds annual production capacity of 1,400,000 trailer axles, 1,000,000 trailer landing gears, 600,000 suspension systems, 6,000,000 brake components, and 18,000,000 brake linings.
Carvalho said that Fuwa has developed both drive axles and front axles for heavy-duty trucks, with a first-phase production capacity at 200,000 units each. “We are working with three domestic truck OEMs on testing operations of the products, which will be launched by the end of the year,” Carvalho said. “Fuwa’s drive axles are designed with the highest strength among all products in the market and the company’s seamless beam tube structure of the front axles uses patented technology of Fuwa.
Fuwa has been independently developing heavy-duty axles utilizing overseas talents. Currently the company has 20 expatriates working as top executives and engineers, half of whom previously served at ArvinMeritor, including Carvalho himself, who was formerly a vice president.
