GM and SAIC deliver first Shanghai 2010 World Expo vehicles

SHANGHAI – General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Group Corp.(SAIC) have delivered the first group of sponsored vehicles to the Shanghai Expo Bureau to promote the World Expo 2010 to be held in Shanghai.

The 88 vehicles, which arrived on March 27, include the Buick LaCrosse, GL8 MPV, and the new Chevrolet Epica, all of which are manufactured by the Shanghai-GM joint venture. SAIC’s new independent brand model, the Roewe 750, was also included.

Last November, GM and SAIC signed an agreement with the Shanghai Expo Bureau to make the two automakers the official global partners of the World Expo, the first-such event for a developing country. GM and SAIC will continue to provide further vehicles and support over the years leading up to the Expo.

World Expo 2010 Shanghai, whose theme is: “Better City, Better Life” will run from May 1 to October 31, 2010. It will seek to attract some 70 million visitors from China and overseas.
