BEIJING – Hawtai Automobile Co., Ltd. debuted its new generation Santa Fe SUV model with the company’s new logo on April 20, the media day of the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.
Hawtai’s new Santa Fe has an engine option of 1.5T diesel or petrol. As planned, the new SUV will be rolled off the line at the company’s Tianjin factory on May 18, and then launched to the market in September or October, according to Gong Yanyan, Hawtai’s vice general manager of sales.
Hawtai exhibited 10 models in total, including the SUV Boliger and new Santa Fe, as well as sedan Lusheng E70 and Lusheng E90, and eight powertrain systems, including diesel and petrol engines. Hawtai plans to launch more small vehicles, including MPVs and pickups, according to Gong.
Hawtai is working with Malaysia Proton Automobile Co., Ltd. to set up a new joint venture. “Proton is good at A0- and A-class products, and Hawtai has OED 2.0T clean diesel engine. I believe Hawtai and Proton will have a future,” said Guo Yunfei, vice president of Hawtai.
Hawtai also plans to launch a new sedan Hawtai B21 in the second half of 2014.
