ITASCA, Illinois – Hendrickson, a U.S.-based manufacturer of commercial vehicle suspension systems, recently entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Sino Truk (Hong Kong) Ltd., the publicly listed affiliate of China National Heavy-Duty Truck Group Corp. (CNHTC or Sinotruk), China’s largest heavy-duty truck producer.
Under this agreement, Hendrickson will design, develop and manufacture suspension systems for use in heavy-duty trucks built by CNHTC or its affiliates. A production facility in Jinan, Shandong Province, where Sinotruk is based, has been established. Operation began in the second quarter of 2010, with full production capability targeted for the fourth quarter of this year.
Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems, a unit of Hendrickson, has developed a new suspension, HUVTM, specifically for CNHTC and the challenging environment in the Chinese transportation industry. HUV is a heavy-duty rubber suspension designed to provide outstanding durability and significant weight savings for an increased payload, compared to traditional suspension designs.
“Hendrickson worked extensively to understand the market needs in China for a heavy-duty suspension that exceeds capabilities of six-rod suspensions,” said Doug Sanford, vice president and general manager of Hendrickson Truck Systems Group. “By working in collaboration with CNHTC, Hendrickson has been able to bring new suspension technology with superior weight savings and value to truck owners in China.”
Hendrickson CEO Gary Gerstenslager commented, “Hendrickson is pleased to enter into this relationship. We can bring customized suspension solutions to Sinotruk’s Chinese customers.”
“We are very delighted to have strengthened our existing relationship with this suspension industry leader. Hendrickson products are specifically tailored to our needs for the Chinese Truck market. Their presence in Jinan will add to our local supplier base,” commented Cai Dong, president of Sinotruk.
Hendrickson, based in Itasca, Illinois, USA, has been a leading global supplier of truck, tractor, bus and recreational vehicle suspensions, springs, axles and bumpers for the commercial transportation industry for the last 95 years.
