The Liangjian (Bright Sword), a medium truck model developed by Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. (JAC) will hit the market together with an SRV (Sport Recreation Vehicle) model later this year, according to a report in Nanfang Dushi Bao (Nanfang Metropolis Daily) citing new product, production and sales plans in 2006 announced by JAC Chairman Zuo Yan’an and President An Jin.
JAC, a leading light vehicle producer, plans to sell 190,000 units of vehicles and achieve sales revenues of ¥14.5 billion ($1.81 billion) in 2006, according to Zuo. “We invested no more than ¥10 million in our medium truck project,” said An. “Since the wheelbase of nine meters is compatible both in medium trucks and the Gallop (JAC’s heavy-duty model), we don’t have to start from scratch.” Internally named the HFC6450, the SRV project was initiated last September. JAC has injected ¥810 million into the SRV project, based on the Refine MPV platform, and aims to produce 30,000 units of this model per year. In 2005, JAC sold 154,589 units of vehicles, up 18.19 percent year-on-year. Sales revenues were ¥13.306 billion, up 19.23 percent.
