California’s ZAP EV company and its subsidiary Jonway Auto are putting in three new EV production lines into their Zhejiang plant, according to a ZAP press release.
Two of the new lines are already producing Jonway’s Urbee, which has become popular enough in the Chinese market to create a backlog of over 25,000 vehicles. The third line is an existing petrol SUV line, and will be tasked with production of BEV SUVs and minivans by Q4 2014.
Jonway Auto is licensed for highway speed EVs by its agency in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. With this approval, its products are eligible for the central government’s rebate incentives for purchasing EVs.
