BEIJING – Kei Ohno was appointed the new chairman and president of Subaru (China) Co., Ltd. on June 1.
Ohno replaces Yukihiro Nakamura, who has returned to Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) in Japan to take up new responsibilities. Nakamura had been in charge of Subaru’s China operations since 2004, when the Japanese brand under FHI officially entered China as an import.
Ohno has been with FHI since 1980 and has held numerous positions at Subaru of America Inc. and FHI’s overseas operations. Before his new appointment, he had been in charge of FHI’s Asia and Oceania operations since October 2005, with primary focus on the Chinese market. During this period, he was instrumental in Subaru’s brand-building and sales increase in the Chinese market. Earlier this year, he also became responsible for FHI’s South America operations.
Ohno’s immediate tasks after the appointment will be to continue to strengthen and complete Subaru’s sales network and aftersales service in China and set up a more efficient spare parts supply channel.
During Nakamura’s tenure, Subaru vehicle sales in China leapt from 546 units in 2004 to nearly 6,000 units in 2006.
