BEIJING – Liu Zhigang, the former president of Brilliance-Jinbei Automobile Co., Ltd. and general manager of Brilliance Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. (Brilliance Sales), has joined Huatai Automobile Co., Ltd. (Huatai) as its new president, according to reports in China Business News.
Liu succeeds Tong Zhiyuan, who left Huatai last December, to take charge of the company’s car project.
Before joining Huatai, Liu was at Brilliance-Jinbei for 26 years. He started his career at the Shenyang office in 1984 and was appointed vice general manager of the company’s Zhonghua car project in 2000. He became vice president and standing vice president of Brilliance-Jinbei in 2003 and succeeded Lin Xiaogang as company’s president in 2007. When Yang Bo left Brilliance Sales in 2008, Liu was appointed general manager of the sales company and took responsibility for both manufacturing and sales.
According to CBU-Autostats, Huatai produced and sold 51,208 and 50,747 vehicles respectively in 2009. In January this year, the company’s sales reached 7,198 units, a 241.79 percent jump from the same month of 2009.
