MIIT releases official vehicle purchase catalogue

BEIJING – The 2012 Catalogue of Automobiles for Selection as Official Cars for Party and Government Organs (the Catalogue) was released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on February 24 to solicit public comments.

All 412 models listed in the Catalogue, including 265 cars, 64 SUVs, 78 MPVs and five new energy vehicles, are from independent brands such as JAC, BYD, Chery and Great Wall Motor. The Catalogue also shows that engine displacement requirements for sedans, SUVs and MPVs were capped at 1.8L, 2.5L and 2.4L respectively.

Last November, MIIT announced detailed selection criteria of government fleet models and their manufacturers with the release of the Administrative Details for the Selection of Automobiles Used by Party and Government Organs, which required vehicles purchased for official use must be below 1.8L in engine displacement and not cost more than ¥180,000.
