China should establish a state strategy for new energy vehicle development, suggested Ma Chunji, chairman of CNHTC and a member of NPC.
It is impossible to develop NEVs through transforming the auto industry or in accordance with enterprise or industry strategies, said Ma. “Otherwise new energy vehicle production will become a national movement,” he commented
According to Ma, new energy vehicle business brings a new opportunity for Chinese automakers, or even a breakthrough in the future development. “China owns great advantages, for example, large market and low overall cost,” said Ma.
China consumes 305 million tons of fuel per year with an insufficiency of 124 million tons, said Ma. Only new technical route can bring about low carbon automobiles, and we should not develop high carbon products in the name of reducing carbon emissions, said the chairman.
