HEFEI – Anhui province exported 220,700 vehicles in 2011, contributing to 27 percent of China’s total auto export volume, the Department of Commerce said.
The figure enabled the province to become the largest car-exporter in the country last year.
By contrast, the province’s overseas vehicle shipments were 110,000 units in 2010.
Anhui-based Chery Automobile Co. ranked first among auto makers throughout the country by shipping 160,200 vehicles abroad.
Vehicles made in Anhui were largely exported to South America, Russia, Africa and the Middle East.
The Department of Commerce pledged to encourage local vehicle makers like Chery Automobile and Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC) to further expand overseas this year.
