SHANGHAI – The 25,000th SAIC Roewe RX5 rolled off the production line here in Lingang plant on September 28.
Since entering the market on July 6, sales of the Roewe RX5 in that month was 1,620 units and surged to 8,539 units in August. Orders for the Roewe RX5 so far have surpassed 50,000 units.
The Lingang plant can support the production of both Roewe and Morris Garage (MG) brands and is currently engaged in the production of the Roewe RX5, MG GS and Roewe 950.
The Roewe RX5 is a brand-new compact SUV measured at 4,545×1,855×1,719 mm which is in similar size with mainstream SUVs like the Hover H6 Coupe. It is equipped with 1.5T and 2.0T turbo engines. Peak power of the 1.5T engine is 169 hp with peak torque reaching 250 Nm. Mated with six-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, peak power and peak torque of the 2.0T engine is 220 hp and 350 Nm respectively. Moreover, the 1.5T model adopts a front-wheel drive, while the 2.0T model is equipped with both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
Its competitors are the Hover H6 Coupe, Trumpchi GS4 and Geely Boyue.
