SAIC and Wanxiang build new energy coach JV

SHANGHAI – Chinese automaker SAIC and a leading supplier Wanxiang Group have built a 49:51 joint venture for producing new energy coaches, reported China Business News.

The JV, which is also known as SAIC Wanxiang New Energy Coach Co., Ltd., is designed to produce 5,000 new energy coaches per year. In addition to domestic market, the coaches made by the JV will also be probably exported to overseas markets.

Wanxiang Group, which received approval of producing special-purpose vehicles in 2013, tested several electric coaches in public transport of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 2012 but halted it after more than a year.

As a leading automaker in China and partner of Volvo, SAIC owns rich expertise in coach and new energy coach manufacturing.
