Sales of locally produced SUV up 36.6 percent in May

BEIJING – China’s locally produced SUV sales in May 2014 increased 36.6 percent on a yearly basis to 282,868 units, according to CBU-Autostats.

Combined sales of the top 10 models were 127,843 units, accounting for 45.2 percent of the total sales.

In the first five months, cumulative sales of locally produced SUVs reached 1,326,628 units, up 33.5 percent.

In the first five months, Chinese brand sales in the segment reached 490,729 units, up 29.2 percent.

Sales of Japanese brands’ locally produced SUVs increased by 49.1 percent year-on-year to 67,509 units, and their market share was 23.8 percent, up 1.99 percentage points.

Cumulative sales of these brands in the segment rose 34.7 percent to 284,305 units in the first five months.

Their cumulative sales in SUV segment in the first five months reached 208,717 units, up 49.7 percent.

In the first five months, American brand sales in the SUV segment rose 73.3 percent to 139,279 units.
