Shanghai-GM will set up its fourth passenger vehicle production plant in the Jiangxia District of Wuhan, where the city is planning its new energy vehicle industrial base, eeo.com.cn reported.
This indicates that Shanghai-GM’s NEV plan will start from its new Wuhan production base.
Public information shows that Shanghai-GM’s project in Wuhan covers 2.2 square km with a total investment of ¥7 billion ($1.1billion). The project is expected to have an annual production capacity of 300,000 units.
Currently the project is under reviews by Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau. Sources said the project will be finished in 2014.
According to Wuhan’s urban development plan, Jiangxia is positioned as an environmental-friendly modern equipment-manufacturing base. In November 2011, Wuhan’s new energy vehicle production base was settled down in the area.
