BEIJING – Toyota will recall 61,459 cars in China over airbag defects starting from May 8, 2014, according to a post on the website of the national quality watchdog General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
Tianjin-FAW-Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will recall 47,636 units of the Reiz made between November 16, 2005 and August 10, 2010.
GAC-Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. announced to recall 13,752 units of the Highlander made between May 27, 2009 and August 31, 2010.
Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co. will recall 71 units of the Highlanders imported between March 30, 2007 and January 19, 2009.
The recall is designed to fix a faulty spiral cable that may turn on the airbag warning light and prevent airbags from deploying.
This recall is part of Toyota’s second biggest recall globally announced earlier this month.
