BEIJING – Shenzhen Wuzhoulong Motors Co. will launch its first electric school bus in the first half this year, reported d1EV.com, citing Xiao Junbo, the company’s marketing director who revealed the news at the first electric school bus exhibition held in Beijing.
The new product is a long-nosed bus which is 10 meters long. The electric bus will be similar to and have the same high safety standards as a diesel school bus that Wuzhoulong showcased at the exhibition.
“The electric version of the school bus will have higher safety standards than the national criteria. It is designed to be charged as school bus’s service time is short every day and there is plenty of time to charge the vehicle,” said Xiao.
Xiao was confident about the safety of the company’s electric buses, citing that Wuzhoulong electric buses which were used in the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen have been proved to be reliable without any errors or accidents record.
Xiao said the attention on school bus should be expanded from safety to low emission. “It is a good way to promote alternative energy vehicles in the form of school buses,” noted Xiao.
Pricing of the electric school bus will be higher than the regular combustion versions but lower than that of the current electric bus, according to Xiao.
