GUANGZHOU – Zeng Qinghong has succeeded Zhang Fangyou as chairman of GAC Group effective October 30, according to an announcement of the company on the same day.
Zhang retired at the age of 60 from the posts of chairman, board member and director of board of directors’ strategic committee of GAC Group on October 30.
Zeng joined the automotive industry in December 1979 as a worker in Guangzhou Auto Repair Factory, and later as a technician, assistant engineer and head of chassis technology section of Guangzhou Bus Factory. He won a scholarship from China Association for Science and Technology to study automobile in a technology exchange center in Japan from July 1990 to July 1991. After that, he held several positions with Guangzhou Bus Factory including engineer, vice director and director of the factory’s technology department.
In July 1993, he was appointed assistant to president, director of comprehensive division and vice president of Guangzhou Jinbaoma Bus Industry Company. Later in December 1995, he became vice president and executive vice president of Guangzhou Guangke Auto Group Co., Ltd.
Since July 1999 he was secretary of the Party committee, board director and executive vice president of GAC-Honda, and served as vice president of Guangzhou Automobile Group Company since April 16, 2001. In 2005, he moved from GAC-Honda to GAC Group as vice chairman and president, and president of GAC Group since June 2013.
Zeng was born in July 1961 in Heyuan, Guangdong Province. He is a Party member and a senior engineer. He was a graduate with a major in economics and management at Guangdong Provincial Party School. He was also a delegate of the 10th and 11th National People’s Congress.
