Auspicious or ominous start to the Year of the Pig?

It’s a case of glass half empty or half full.

A look at the January sales numbers announced by Chinese and foreign automakers reveals a mix of up and downs, but almost all of them are trying to paint a picture half full.

It’s the first month of the year and the Chinese custom is to have an auspicious start to the year which is supposed to be good omen for the rest of the year. In Chinese, it’s called “kaimenhong” or “open door red.”
