BAIC Zhuzhou’s second plant inaugurated

ZHUZHOU, Hunan – BAIC Zhuzhou’s second plant was inaugurated here on May 6, and a new BAIC Senova model, the D50, was rolled off the production line at the new plant on the same day.

BAIC Zhuzhou, a branch of BAIC Motor, is the first base to produce BAIC Motor’s independent brand passenger vehicles. Construction of the manufacturing base started in September 2009 and phase-one project of the first plant was finished within 18 months. Currently, the first plant has annual output capacity of 200,000 vehicles and 100,000 engines and its cumulated output volume has reached nearly 800,000 vehicles.

BAIC Zhuzhou’s second plant covers an area of 1,167,000 square meters. The plant has stamping, welding, painting and assembly workshops and is capable of producing vehicles from four platforms. Annual output capacity of the second plant is 300,000 vehicles and 200,000 engines, and the new plant is expected to be the largest vehicle manufacturing base in Hunan when it goes into operation.

“BAIC Zhuzhou’s second plant will play a significant role in the collaboration between Beijing and Hunan and in the development of Zhuzhou’s emerging industries,” said Xu Heyi, chairman of BAIC Group.

The Senova D50 was unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2017 in April. Market launch of the new model is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
