BEIJING – China’s automobile sales in H1 2017 increased 3.81 percent from the same period of the previous year to over 13.35 million units, and sales in June increased 4.54 percent to more than 2.17 million units, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on July 11.
In the first six months of the year, passenger vehicle sales reached 11.25 million units, down 1.61 percent, while commercial vehicle sales reached 2.10 million units, up 17.39 percent. In June, passenger vehicle sales reached 1.83 million units, up 2.32 percent, while commercial vehicle sales reached 340,100 units, up 18.36 percent.
The top 10 automakers by sales in first half of 2017 were SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW, Chang’an, BAIC, GAC, Great Wall, Brilliance, JAC and Geely. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 11.81 million units, accounting for 88.45 percent of total automobile sales. In June, the top 10 automakers by sales were SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW, Chang’an, GAC, BAIC, Geely, Great Wall, Brilliance and Chery.
In H1, passenger car sales were close to 5.40 million units, down 3.17 percent compared with last year. The Volkswagen Lavida ranked first on the list of sales of the top 10 car models in H1 2017 by selling 255,800 units. In June, the top 10 passenger car makers by sales were FAW-VW, SAIC-VW, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Nissan, FAW-Toyota, Geely, Chang’an-Ford, GAC-Honda, GAC-Toyota and Beijing-Hyundai. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached about 646,400 units, accounting for 73.21 percent of total passenger car sales.
From January to June, sales of SUVs slowed with a year-on-year growth rate of 16.83 percent to 4.53 million units, as the growing segment only in the passenger vehicle market. The Haval H6 kept first place on the list of sales of the top 10 SUV models by selling 226,500 units. In June, the top 10 SUV makers by sales were Great Wall, Chang’an, Geely, SAIC-VW, Dongfeng-Nissan, GAC Motor, SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Honda and SAIC PC. Combined sales of these 10 companies reached 385,600 units, accounting for 52.01 percent of total SUV sales.
MPV sales through to June were down 15.78 percent to 1.01 million units. The Wuling Hongguang maintained the first place on the list of sales of the top 10 MPV models by selling 261,000 units. In June, the top 10 MPV makers by sales were SAIC-GM-Wuling, Chang’an, Dongfeng, SAIC-GM, Dongfeng-Honda, SAIC-VW, Jinbei Auto, BAIC Yinxiang, Chongqing Lifan and JAC, with combined sales of 128,100 units, which took up 85.57 percent of total MPV sales.
In H1, microvan sales reached 316,700 units, down 25.28 percent again and again. In June, Microvan sales reached 43,700 units, down 22.34 percent.
For the commercial vehicle market in the first half of the year, bus sales reached 220,400 units, down 13.98 percent, while truck sales reached 1.88 million units, up 22.63 percent. In June, bus sales reached 49,400 units, up 1.87 percent, while truck sales reached 290,700 units, up 21.71 percent.
During January-June period, new energy vehicle sales reached 195,000 units, up 14.40 percent. New energy passenger vehicle sales reached 164,000 units, up 35.90 percent, while new energy commercial vehicle sales reached 31,000 units, down 37.60 percent. In June, new energy vehicle sales reached 59,000 units, up 33 percent.
